Under the supervision of the manager, assistant director and director, serve as a Patient Financial Analyst for Hematology/Oncology which includes performing financial registration screening, insurance eligibility and benefit verification, financial counseling of hematology/oncology and specialty patients and other administrative support as assigned. Major duties include but are not limited to: direct telephone contact with health care insurers, utilizing electronic systems to verify eligibility and benefits, documenting information accurately in appropriate systems, answering telephone and written inquiries from patients, clinic staff and other stakeholders as needed, assisting patients with education and guidance of their insurance benefits, referring patients to appropriate resources and providing follow-up through telephone and EPIC/Care Connect.
Salary range: $32.56/hr - $49.35/hr
Qualifications
Required:
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain insurance information and document details accurately.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic and percentage calculations.
Typing skills to complete documentation, prepare forms and correspondence with speed and accuracy.
Knowledge, skills and ability to work autonomously using specific software programs such electronic medical record (EMR) systems, insurance verification portals, and Microsoft Office applications.
Possesses strong customer service skills to promote pleasant and effective interactions with patients, staff, and management.
Ability to work as part of a team, maintaining confidentiality in all assignments, and showing initiative in identifying and solving problems as they occur.
Skill in setting priorities when there are deadline pressures, competing requirements and a heavy workload.
Demonstrated ability to maintain composure when confronted by difficult situations and to respond professionally.
Demonstrated experience in healthcare administration, insurance verification, prior authorizations and/or medical billing.
Proficient working knowledge and understanding of the healthcare financial model including major medical insurance plans, authorizations, billing, and denials.
Knowledge of medical terminology, medical office procedures, and/or billing and diagnosis codes, with a focus in hematology/oncology and infusion therapy.
Skill in adapting to and implementing frequently changing workflows and processes.
Ability to analyze complex patient situations that arise and identify solutions.
Experience with a diverse patient population and showing sensitivity and empathy to patients and families experiencing complex medical situations.
Advanced organizational skills to ensure a workable, efficient workspace and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Meticulous attention to detail.
3+ years of experience in outpatient hematology/oncology services, treatments, and insurance coverage benefits.
Preferred:
3+ years working experience with CareConnect or other EPIC-based electronic medical record software.
Experience in financial counseling, including educating patients on their health insurance benefits.
