Join the diverse and dynamic culture of the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at Governors State University (GovState). GovState is seeking candidates for the position of Chair of the Department of Addictions Studies and Behavioral Health. Reporting directly to the Dean of CHHS, The Department Chair is responsible for management of the department’s budget, curriculum, accreditation, personnel, and enrollment.
The Department of Addictions Studies and Behavioral Health (ASBH) is one of seven academic departments in the College. The Department houses a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Community Health, and the first Master of Health Sciences in Addictions Studies program in the State of Illinois, accredited by the Illinois Certification Board (ICB) and the National Addiction Studies Accreditation Commission (NASAC). Our MHS program collaborates with the Master of Arts in Counseling program to offer a CACREP-accredited Addictions Counseling Concentration.
We have a high level of community engagement, including a thriving Advisory Board and alumni organization. We have a strong reputation in the state and nationally for our grant-funded training in Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT); peer-counselor training (CRSS); and behavioral health. We have active grants related to stroke awareness and prevention and participate in the Illinois Precision Medicine Consortium’s NIH All of Us Research Program.
We seek a dynamic, detail-oriented and visionary leader who will build upon the department’s strengths to provide exceptional professional educational experiences, recruit and develop outstanding faculty, and promote faculty-driven scholarship. The next Chair will respect students of all ages and backgrounds and be a committed team player who is devoted to excellence and shared governance. The selected individual will be a consultative decision-maker and will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
We are preparing a healthcare workforce that understands the social and environmental determinants of health and is committed to advancing justice through improving health equity. We seek a like-minded, experienced individual who shares our values and supports the GovState mission to provide accessible, high-quality educational programs that meet the needs of the surrounding communities.
