The Ph.D. in Education with a concentration in Kinesiology is designed to prepare the next generation of kinesiology scholars. Students will be prepared with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes that will enable them to be professional leaders, educators, and researchers of consequence to impact and transform societal health and quality of life across the lifespan in the global community. As Virginia’s largest public research university, Kinesiology doctoral students at Mason have access to faculty who are internationally renowned researchers and scholars. In addition, George Mason University supports doctoral students in research and other scholarly activities with state-of-the-art laboratory and other research facilities and a robust portfolio of research and academic support services.
We are recruiting and have funding available for Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA) and Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA). The KINE faculty research interests are conducted at the Sports Medicine Assessment, Research, and Testing (SMART Laboratory) in the areas of:
Biomechanics
Tactical Athlete Performance
Research and Implementation of Injury Prevention Programs
Wearable Sensors
Fall prevention and cognitive dual task
For the GTAs, the courses assigned will be in the undergraduate Kinesiology Program.

Position Requirements
- Admission to the George Mason University Ph.D. in Education program, KINE concentration
- Master’s degree in athletic training, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field
- Preferred if holds current fitness certification such as ACSM, ACE, NAMS, NCSA, AFFA, NASM, or NFPT
