JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Financial Care Counselor to be an integral part of the patient care team in the clinic /service area and is responsible for the revenue cycle patient access activities related to but not limited to financial counseling and clearance of patients to include service specific authorizations and referrals. Financial Counselors enhance the patient experience by assisting patients in maximizing third party payment for healthcare services and reducing the patient out of pocket expense. Financial Care Counselors also enhance the patient experience by providing insight to patients regarding the requirements of their insurance plans and the penalties for non-compliance. Financial Care Counselors are responsible for identifying and correcting insurance registration errors and contributing to registration quality improvement. Many Financial Care Counselors serve as a Cash Manager in the clinic. The Financial Care Counselor provides coverage at the front desk as required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Obtain prior authorization/pre-certification and medical necessity reviews for services prior to being rendered
Make appointments for patients checking out.
WQ that requires an appointment to be scheduled; including, but not limited to, scheduling referrals, Scheduling procedures, and scheduling radiology
Check patients in/out. Greet and provide assistance to all patients and visitors
Cash Manager duties
Serve as an expert in site of service authorization and insurance benefit implications to include the patient's responsibility of co-insurance and co-pay, and the potential for multiple bills. Inform patients and providers of impact prior to service for evaluation of location change. Facilitate changes in authorization as required.
Assess the current financial situation of patients through the verification of benefits; serving as the technical expert for reimbursement and the interpretation of benefits to maximize patient coverage. Maintain proficiency in verifying insurance eligibility and obtain benefits via all methods (e.g. integrated vendor eligibility solutions, phone, fax, or payer website).
Assist in the development and implementation of general policies and procedures to provide for the emotional and physical comfort and safety of patients; participate in the formulation of new policies.
Participate in maintaining the environment of care including equipment and other material resources.
Participate in the identification of clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and assists in performance improvement activities.
Participate in in-service education programs and other conferences within the service.
Assist in the training of new employees.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
2 year experience working in hospital service access, clinical service access, physician offic or billing and collections.
Associate's degree in a healthcare related field or Bachelors' degree and 1 year of experience working with the public can replace 2 years of experience.
JOB HOURS
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
