Job Description
We are looking to hire an Equipment & Maintenance Refrigeration Mechanic who will maintain, repair, and install cooling, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, along with selected kitchen, sterilizing, and laboratory equipment.
Role overview:
- Reviews blueprints, diagrams, and work orders; discusses project requirements with customers; gathers necessary tools, materials, and equipment; and prepares the work area.
- Oversees the operation of HVAC systems, commercial center equipment, cold rooms, refrigeration units, and computer-based controls, ensuring compliance with codes and regulations.
- Conducts maintenance, repairs, and installations for HVAC systems, air conditioners, environmental rooms, refrigeration units, kitchen equipment, sterilization devices, and exam room tables.
- Provides professional and courteous responses to customer inquiries or requests.
- Keeps the work environment clean, orderly, and secure; ensures proper care and use of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Adheres to all safety regulations set by the institution, department, or regulatory agencies.
- Maintains departmental records and documentation, noting time worked, work order status, supplies used, and refrigerant usage per guidelines and department policy.
Key qualifications:
- Completion of vocational trade school or equivalent experience
- NY City Fire Dept. Certificates of Fitness: Oxygen acetylene blowpipe & fire watch during welding, brazing, and cutting operations
- US EPA Certification as a Type I and II technician (Universal certification preferred)
Core skills:
- Proficient in handling both routine and complex assignments independently
- Strong English communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking)
- Competent in using mechanical/electrical testing equipment and chemical cleaning tools, such as test gauges, leak detectors, voltmeters, ammeters, and airflow and pressure testing tools
- Able to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, blueprints, and specifications
- Skilled in using oxy-acetylene blowpipe, rigging equipment, and jacks
This role requires a detail-oriented and technically skilled individual who values safety, professionalism, and a high standard of customer service.
Additional Information:
- Locations: 1275 York Ave (Main Campus)
- Schedule: Full-time Evening shift 2PM-10PM Tuesday- Saturday.
