JOB SUMMARY:
The Patient Care Assistant I (PCA I) is accountable for supporting patient care activities, under the supervision of a registered nurse, in the clinic setting and on inpatient nursing units. The PCA I works closely with the charge nurse and staff nurses to assure patient care needs are met. The PCA I performs patient care activities, as delegated, and adheres to patient safety measures. The PCA I is competent in the performance of basic patient care activities, medical terminology, communication, organizational, and computer skills. The PCA I demonstrates personal and professional effectiveness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
a.Education:High School diploma or the equivalent or technical skills/training appropriate to the specialty area.
b.Licensure/Certification: a) Certified Nurse Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant. Nursing students actively attending an accredited nursing program or who have graduated are exempt of certification requirement provided a satisfactory completion of first clinical/foundations course.
b) Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart
Association (AHA) approved program.
c) Other certificates as required by unit/service/clinic.
2.Work Experience: Six (6) months - One (1) year related clinical experience preferred.
3.Skills/Knowledge: SAMA certification within 90 days of hire.
EKG, and/or Phlebotomy competency validation required, as
applicable to specialty area within 6 months of hire.
