The University of Washington Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine and Seattle Children’s Hospital are hiring for for a full-time pediatric orthopaedic surgeon to specialize in pediatric neuromuscular orthopaedics, deformity surgery and hip surgery. This position includes an academic appointment in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine at the University of Washington. Appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT). The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated state funds.
Clinical responsibilities also include assisting with general pediatric orthopaedics and pediatric orthopaedic call. Other responsibilities may include resident and fellow education, as well as medical student instruction. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to develop a robust program in clinical, education methodologies or basic science research.
Salary Overall compensation is a combination of base salary plus other compensation.The salary range for this position will be: $35,796 per month ($429,544 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by CUMG practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other Compensation Other compensation associated with this position may include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) and Semi-Annual Additional Compensation (SAAC) through the CUMG practice plan.
This position has a flexible start date in Fall of 2025. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11-months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent), be board certified in orthopaedic surgery and have completed a pediatric fellowship (or foreign equivalent) and must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington. A demonstrated record of professionalism, academic accomplishments, and excellent clinical skills encompassing a broad spectrum of pediatric orthopaedic surgery is a prerequisite. This criterion will be assessed through references and letters of recommendation. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
