The College of Health Professions invites applications for one 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty to support the Department of Health Sciences in the public health major. Full-time appointment will begin in August 2025. Faculty may teach at the undergraduate or graduate level based on expertise and the needs of the department. Salary is competitive and includes the State of Maryland benefits package. Rank will be determined based on qualifications at the time of appointment.
Qualifications:
Research doctoral degree in a health sciences or related discipline. Education and expertise to teach courses across the department; subject areas may include public health, epidemiology, health education and promotion, public health policy and/or related health sciences content. Evidence of a scholarship agenda focused in an area of specialty in public health or closely related area. ABD applicants will be considered, but appointment will be at the instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2026.
Responsibilities:
Faculty are assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units (three credit hours each) per academic year. Primary responsibilities include: 1) TEACHING – provide i) high quality instruction in a variety of public health courses to a diverse population of students, and ii) effective advising and mentorship to students as they matriculate through their program and prepare to enter the workforce; 2) SCHOLARSHIP – development, or continuation, of an independent, focused area of scholarship that includes refereed publications, professional presentations, external funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students; and 3) SERVICE – active service participation at the Department, College, University, professional and community levels.
Department of Health Sciences:
The Public Health program is one of nine degree/certificate programs in the interprofessional, team-oriented Department of Health Sciences. The Public Health program has nine fulltime faculty and over 250 undergraduate majors. The Department offers a Master of Science degree in Health Science with concentrations in Administration or Community Health as well as a Health Leadership Graduate Certificate. The Health Sciences Department is highly diverse in faculty and student body; candidates must be sensitive and understanding of diverse backgrounds.
