*Travel required to multiple sites within the Health System to provide compute support (commissioning, decommissioning, break/fix, etc). Travel is once per week, but emergencies can occur. *
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Data Center Engineer intermediate will assist in the commissioning, maintenance and decommissioning of equipment in support of Penn State University, Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine. This includes systems and services supporting the Infrastructure Platform, Infrastructure Application, College of Medicine Information Technology (COM-IT), Asset Management, End User Computing, Network and Voice areas of Information Services. Additionally, the team supports Penn State Health Operations. This role will work under guidance of more senior Data Center Engineers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
Assist in the generation, installation, implementation and maintenance of operating systems, software packages, and/or data communication packages used on enterprise level multi-user distributed server environment.
Support in installation, maintenance and salvage of Network, Voice, and Data Center systems programs, operating systems and hardware. Participate in teams to evaluate, test, and install enterprise systems programs.
Formally document, design, manage, train and/or operate in accordance with Information Systems Operations requirements and needs. Perform Operations functions and facilitate Daily Service Review, Daily Safety Briefing, etc.
Sustain a consistent, high quality, customer-focused orientation when conducting business and providing services or products to clients, the general public and other external customers.
Support in operations and maintenance of the Data Center equipment and facilities in coordination with Penn State University, Information Services, Physical Security, Safety, Facilities and Vendors.
Ensure Asset Management updates are completed for all equipment received at the Data Center to include receipt, storage, inventory, use, distribution and disposal.
Assist server and network operations, and support personnel as well as vendor hardware/software specialists in isolating and resolving hardware and software problems.
Monitor the performance of assigned enterprise server systems. Isolate, correct, and improve operational efficiency through changes to the software packages or reconfiguration of hardware.
Responsible and accountable to comply with cyber security policies, standards, and processes in accordance with the Enterprise Cyber Security Program Plan. This includes proper installation and disposal of equipment and media.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
Associate Degree or equivalent experience (2 years)
Two (2) Years of Experience in equipment setup, configuration, installation and maintenance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
Technology credentials in Network, Server, Operating System, Data Centers, Facility systems is preferred.
