Schedule:
Monday-Friday 8 hours and 12 hours shifts depending on clinical course.
Work Performed
The Clinical Nurse Instructor performs specialized, professional nursing work instructing students. The Clinical Nurse Instructor instructs student nurses in the theoretical and clinical aspects of the practice of nursing. Consults with administration on Watts College of Nursing, in developing curriculum content, course outline and teaching schedules in conformity with objectives of the nursing program and accreditation standards. Instructs students and facilitates discussions about accepted methods of nursing practice including professional aspects of nursing, theories of physiology and psychodynamics, assessment of functional health patterns, nursing interventions, medical, surgical and allied health treatments(such as observing and recording symptoms and applying principles of asepsis and antisepsis, etc.).Interacts and collaborates with nursing service personnel to supplement classroom learning with practical experience in nursing units or community; assigns students to patients and observes performance in actual nursing situations. Uses evidenced based practices as applicable in the clinical setting. Prepares, administers and grades examinations to determine student performance and achievement; maintains necessary records to indicate student progress. Assists students through observational and participative experiences to apply nursing theory, the nursing process and nursing techniques in clinical settings. Counsels students on educational and related problems; facilitates problem-solving process; offers advice and assistance as needed. Makes recommendations to administration, Watts College of Nursing in developing curriculum content and improved teaching and nursing techniques. Discusses instruction al or related matters with administration, Watts College of Nursing; strives continuously to improve quality of student nursing instruction. Participates with other faculty members and student committees in planning and coordinating extracurricular activities to promote the cultural, physical and social development of students. Serves on various professional and faculty committees such as student affairs, faculty development, student services, curriculum, health and guidance; acts as advisor to student organizations. Attends professional workshops, conferences and other educational meetings to promote growth, broaden the knowledge and skills of the faculty and to improve the quality of nursing education. Assists in the preparation of reports required by national and state accrediting agencies. Participates in quality improvement activities in both the school and the corporation. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of professional nursing theories, techniques and practices, including the organization and operations of the nursing staff. Thorough knowledge of the purposes and functions of modern schools of nursing education and their relationship with health care delivery. Thorough knowledge of philosophy, objectives and curricula of diploma education. Thorough knowledge of state laws governing the education and registry of professional nurses, and curricula content of nursing specialties. Thorough knowledge of instructional and educational methods and techniques. Considerable knowledge of modern principles of management and supervisory methods, practices and techniques. Considerable knowledge of health care agencies/hospitals organization and functions of departments, policies, regulations and procedures. Considerable knowledge of current literature and new developments in the nursing field. Ability to coordinate educational experiences with nursing staff personnel. Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of the professional nursing education program, the quality of instruction and recommend and institute changes to improve the overall quality of nursing education. Ability to express ideas effectively in oral and written form.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
MSN required for classroom instruction.
Doctorate preferred.
Experience
Four (4) experience nursing practice as a registered nurse; teaching experience preferred. With solid foundation/understanding of Med Surge.
Clinical Team Lead experience preferred.
Documented experience and expertise in clinical nursing area relevant to units' patient population meets all unit specific needs/competencies/age specifics.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Holds an unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the State of North Carolina. Maintains BCLS certification. Certification for skills and knowledge required for the clinical setting where the clinical practicum is conducted with students (i.e., age- specific competencies, Accucheck, chemstrip UGK, etc.)
