The Canning Thoracic Institute (CTI) at Northwestern Medicine is seeking a highly skilled and visionary Thoracic Surgeon to join our team as an Associate Professor or Professor of Thoracic Surgery and Director of the Lung Health Center. The Lung Health Center at the Canning Thoracic Institute is a new program dedicated to the comprehensive care, early detection, and prevention of lung diseases. Through advanced diagnostic technologies and a multidisciplinary approach to lung health, integrating thoracic surgery, pulmonology, oncology, and radiology, we are committed to improving lung health outcomes through excellence in clinical care, patient education, and groundbreaking research.
A cornerstone of our mission is to expand lung cancer screening broadly to enhance early detection and improve survival rates. We aim to extend our screening services to all qualifying patients and to critically evaluate the potential benefits of expanding screening programs to communities currently deemed ineligible under existing guidelines. This initiative seeks to ensure equitable access to life-saving screening and to refine screening criteria to better serve diverse populations.
Key Responsibilities: Leadership and Management
Lead the Lung Health Center at the Canning Thoracic Institute, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
Oversee clinical operations, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.
Develop and implement strategic initiatives to enhance the center's reputation and reach.
Clinical Practice
Provide expert surgical care with a focus on thoracic oncology and lung cancer surgery, including minimally invasive and precision-guided lung-sparing techniques.
Perform a broad range of thoracic surgical procedures with exceptional skill and compassion.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care.
Research and Innovation
Lead and participate in clinical trials and health services research, contributing to advancements in thoracic surgery and lung health.
Secure research funding and publish findings in high-impact journals.
Mentor junior faculty, residents, and fellows in research activities.
Education and Mentorship
Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows, fostering an environment of academic excellence and professional development.
Deliver lectures, seminars, and hands-on training sessions in thoracic surgery and lung health.
Community Engagement
Promote lung health awareness through community outreach programs and partnerships with organizations such as the American Lung Association (ALA).
Advocate for lung cancer screening and early detection initiatives within the community.
Qualifications:
MD degree from an accredited medical school.
Completion of an accredited thoracic surgery residency program.
Board certification in Thoracic Surgery.
Proven experience in thoracic surgery with a focus on thoracic oncology and lung cancer surgery.
Expertise in minimally invasive and precision-guided lung-sparing surgical techniques.
Strong track record of research in clinical trials and health services research.
