Faculty Physician-Transplant Nephrologist (Academic Track)
The University of Minnesota, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, is recruiting a Transplant Nephrology faculty, consistent with its plans to grow its Kidney Transplant Program. The Kidney and Pancreas Transplant programs at the University of Minnesota have a long and rich history of success, research and innovation. It currently ranks among the top tier in numbers of transplants yearly. The Division has a good reputation for producing top quality graduates from our General Nephrology and Transplant Nephrology fellowships, and promoting careers in academic medicine and research.
Position Highlights:
Join a supportive and collaborative group of physicians and advance practice providers that deliver comprehensive medical care for patients with kidney disease or hypertension.
This position will participate in the inpatient and outpatient clinical care of nephrology transplant patients, along with teaching of medical students, residents and fellows.
This is a full time position with 85% of the time dedicated to clinical care, which offers an interesting and complex mix of transplant patients, and 15% of the time dedicated to academics/ research, teaching and/or administrative endeavors.
The clinic weeks include 4-5 half day clinics, including some virtual clinics when not on the inpatient service. Patients are seen at the M Health Fairview Clinics & Surgery Center in Minneapolis, MN.
Procedures: Kidney transplant biopsies, if comfortable performing.
Inpatient coverage is shared equally with the existing nephrology transplant faculty, at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis. Will primarily see kidney and pancreas transplant patients. May perform consults on any service in the hospital for transplant nephrology patients.
Inpatient service is shared with a transplant nephrologist, advance practice provider and a nephrology fellow, with a daily average census of 20 patients.
Work in a team based environment with experienced surgical and other transplant specialists, Advance Practice Providers, clinical nurse coordinators, pharmacists and dietary staff.
Call: Inpatient - approximately 10 weekends/year and shared equally among the faculty. Night call is shared with the general nephrologists and very minimal. The nephrology fellows take the first call.
Educational opportunities are available with a weekly Clinical Care meeting, transplant conferences, grand rounds and exposure to fellows.
About the Division:
The Division of Nephrology and Hypertension's core missions are to deliver comprehensive medical care for patients with kidney disease or hypertension, to perform cutting-edge research into the causes and treatment of kidney disease, and to educate physicians in the care of patients with kidney disease.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited ACGME Internal Medicine residency, nephrology and transplant nephrology fellowship-training programs.
Board eligible/certified with the ABIM in internal medicine and transplant nephrology.
Licensed or ability to acquire medical license and DEA in the State of Minnesota, and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges.
Ability to receive work authorization in the United States from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and maintain legal status according to the requirements of the VISA.
Preferred Qualifications:
Interest in clinical or translational research is desired. Experience in research is preferred but not required.
