Responsible for the overall facilitation of daily operations and functions of assigned campus Occupational Health Department, including but not limited to: new hire and annual health screens, immunizations, Tuberculosis screening, work injury and return to work facilitation. CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital ? San Marcos, which originated in 1923 as Hays County Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Memorial Hospital, opened at its current Wonder World Drive location in 1983. In addition to interventional cardiac services, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital ? San Marcos is a Certified Chest Pain Center and an accredited Primary Stroke Center. We lead the region in da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery and offers a variety of specialty care services including medical imaging, rehabilitation, hospice, women?s services and more.
Responsibilities:
Performs pre-hire health assessments and screening tests to ensure fitness for duty, including detailed medical history, Tuberculosis screening, and arrangements for appropriate laboratory tests. In accordance with Associate Health policies and procedures, interprets and evaluates historical data, laboratory reports and screening tests to accurately determine current health status, vaccine needs, etc.
Administers annual tuberculosis testing for all Associates and others as required. Conducts appropriate follow-up of positive results and ensures compliance with CDC recommendation and OSHA requirements.
Provides post-exposure surveillance for Associates exposed to tuberculosis, needle sticks and other exposures to infectious disease. Reviews charts and information to determine if HIV testing is necessary. In accordance with policy and Federal law, counsels Associates for pre and post -HIV testing. Provides follow-up care in accordance with established protocol and in consultation with physician.
Provides accurate documentation and maintains Associate Health records and ensures confidentiality of all Associate records.
Sees Associates who become ill or are injured at work. Works with the Occupational Health Representative to facilitate Associate workplace injuries or exposures in accordance with the CHRISTUS Health Texas Occupational Injury Assistance Plan (TOIAP). Evaluates Associate health status and determines eligibility to return to work, refers to Emergency Department or sends Associate home if appropriate.
Sees Associates returning to work after a Leave of Absence or illness and issues the appropriate return to work clearance.
Provides all Associates and other designated populations immunization for vaccine preventable diseases such as MMR, Hepatitis B, TDAP, Varicella, & Influenza, as required by state law and policy. Provides proper follow-up with Associates to ensure compliance. Records all vaccination information in accordance with policy and Federal and state law.
Works collaboratively with other Occupational Health staff to develop and recommend Associate Health policies and procedures, forms and other improvement processes.
May serve as a member of the Infection Control Committee and Safety Committee.
Maintains professional currency and relevance by reading professional literature, committee participation and continuing education.
Consults with Regional Occupational Health Manager as needed on matters relating to health assessment findings or fitness for duty concerns, ADAAA issues, Associate illnesses, return to work issues or regulatory compliance matters such OSHA, CDC, Texas Department of Health Services, or TJC and any other matters of concern.
Demonstrates competence to perform responsibilities in a manner that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of individuals served by department
Appropriately adapts individual assessment, treatment and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and other developmental needs of individuals served.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current State LVN license.
Demonstrable experience with PC, Excel and Word or similar word processing system required.
Experience with needles, syringes, blood pressure cuffs, stethoscope and other medical equipment is required.
Demonstrable knowledge of applicable Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations, OSHA regulations and The Joint Commission standards as related to Associate Health Associate.
Attention to detail and accuracy necessary. Ability to work within deadlines and handle multiple tasks required. Ability to maintain confidentiality required.
Experience
A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience in Medical-Surgical nursing, Emergency Care or Family Practice is required.
Experience in Occupational Health, Employee Health, Public Health and/ or Worker?s Compensation is preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Current Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure required
