Utica, NY – Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) seeks an engaging, visionary physician leader to serve as its next Senior Physician Executive, MVHS Medical Group (SPE) to lead its employed physician practices. This position offers the opportunity to lead and build the provider base of an innovative, growing, high-quality integrated health system. The SPE will be key in the future success of MVHS, to ensure that the community has access to exceptional healthcare services as the healthcare landscape evolves rapidly.
With 3,300 full-time employees, MVHS serves the geographic area of Oneida, Herkimer, and Madison counties known as the Mohawk Valley. In 2023, MVHS opened its brand new, state-of-the-art, integrated health campus comprised of a 373-bed, 702,000-square-foot facility in downtown Utica. This transformational project has impacted how healthcare is delivered to the communities and supports the revitalization of downtown Utica and the area. Given its size, charitable mission, and role as a major employer, MVHS is an organizational pillar in Utica and the region. MVHS Medical Group employs 242 primary care and specialist physicians and APPs who work across MVHS inpatient and outpatient operations, including 16 primary care facilities.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer of MVHS, the SPE will serve as the strategic and operational leader for the Medical Group, overseeing all providers and other medical group staff. The SPE will lay out and drive toward a vision for the future of the Medical Group, in alignment with the overall MVHS strategic direction and goals, based on sustainable growth and enhancing a culture based on inclusivity and passion for providing the highest-quality healthcare services. Highlighting provider engagement and satisfaction, creating infrastructure and processes to drive high-quality and cost-effective clinical care, and effectual financial management, the SPE will transform the Medical Group to achieve the highest metrics against national benchmarks.
The SPE will be a strategic physician executive who has a track record of leading change management down to the front-line levels of an organization. This leader should be engaging, dynamic, and collaborative, with the ability to lead diverse groups of individuals, including physicians and advance practice providers, finance professionals, nursing teams, and other staff in healthcare settings. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to construct a contemporary medical group structure to enhance operational efficiency and cultivate a positive organizational culture, all while fostering strong relationships with providers. We seek candidates with an M.D. or D.O. degree, with current board certification in their specialty and the ability to become licensed in the State of New York. An additional advanced degree in business or healthcare administration, or related certification, will be seen as a value-add.

The compensation for this position includes a salary targeted between $375,000 to $425,000, along with market-competitive incentive compensation and benefits. This compensation level is a good faith determination of anticipated compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
