Job Summary
This role supports educational needs into consistent and effective educational programs. Assesses and improves the patient care processes and functions as an expert clinical resource. Supports the program and division leadership in ensuring excellence in clinical care, patient care and clinical practice. Develops staff and shapes the nursing practice through the pursuit of evidence-based strategies. Links relevant research to the clinical practice and develops instructional programs for the team to meet the initial and continuing requirements as outlined in the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS) standards.
Primary Responsibilities
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.
* Primary point of contact for all new employees for orientation plan, scheduling, formal check ins, and progress purposes
* Supports recruitment, training, and the continuing education of the team
* Primary instructor for initial ambulance safety briefing, departmental policies, clinical practice, and education initiatives
* Ensures orientation and education programs meet or exceed established standards as outlined by CAMTS, Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, and the UMMS.
* Facilitates delivery of high quality, coordinated, evidence-based care through competency-based validation.
* Identifies and mitigates staff clinical practice issues and partners with MEC leadership on remediation of crew members with clinical deficiencies. Responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating action plan to address noted deficiencies.
* Independently evaluates MEC processes and determines quality improvement opportunities in reference to clinical care and outcomes
* Utilizes QA/QI data to evaluate educational and orientation program outcomes. Develops performance improvement and educational initiatives to inform educational curriculum and optimize care in transport.
* Develops, schedules, implements, and evaluates all interactive educational opportunities that utilize evidence based didactic, high fidelity-simulation, and other clinical learning strategies. These educational opportunities are interdisciplinary in nature to ensure realism for the learner.
* Evaluation of learning styles of MEC team, and incorporation of multi-modal learning strategies to support the diversity of learners
* Fulfills all requirements of a clinical nurse as outlined in Maryland ExpressCare Professional Advancement Model. A component of this position requires this individual to function in a direct patient care capacity

Qualifications
Education & Experience - Required
* Bachelor's degree in a health-related field
* RN licensure with current licensure in the State of Maryland.
* Five (5) years of previous experience as a RN in a critical care environment
* Two (2) years previous experience in a critical care transport setting
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
* Demonstrated effectiveness in operations associated with inter-facility transfers and commercial ambulances.
* Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles to optimize education opportunities for MEC
* Ability to ensure continuity of educational opportunities/deployments across multiple physical locations of significant geographical distance
* Highly effective verbal and written communications skills are necessary to work with medical staff, researchers, other administration, senior management, hospital and program personnel, patients, regulatory agencies, and the community.
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served.
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
* Ability to function in a rapidly changing work environment.
* Ability to independently develop, implement, evaluate and sustain MEC's educational plan for new and incumbent team members
* Independently evaluate opportunities for performance improvements and develops meaningful
* Ability to oversee, direct, monitor and evaluate the work performance of staff, assuring work quality, efficiency and effectiveness and that performance standards are met.
