SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY is seeking an innovative educational leader to serve as Program Director for the Psychiatry Residency Program. Our residency consists of eight (8) psychiatry residents per year (including two (2) integrated child track residents) as well as two (2) med-psych residents per year. Unique clinical experiences include state hospital, FQHC, community mental health center, TMS, ECT, VNS, Esketamine, incarcerated populations, as well as innovate services like phone consultation to primary care, walk-in clinic, integrated care, and telemedicine. The Department of Psychiatry is part of the SIU Neuroscience Institute, an integrated, academic practice. Partnerships with state agencies and health systems in Illinois create opportunities to expand educational programs including the potential development of rural residency tracks/programs and a combined Family Medicine-Psychiatry residency. SIU Psychiatry serves as the Hub for the Illinois Behavioral Health Workforce Center, a state-wide legislative effort established to address the behavioral health workforce shortage.
An international leader in medical education, faculty routinely participate in cutting-edge educational programs. SIU has won six (6) ASPIRE to Excellence Awards from the Association for Medical Education in Europe, making it the only United States medical school to win more than two such awards. Applicants must have an MD or DO degree; must have completed four years of approved residency program in psychiatry and be board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and must maintain board certifications; must have at least three years of experience in academic psychiatry; must be trained or willing to be trained to provide ECT and TMS services; must be eligible to apply for a valid Illinois medical licensure prior to employment.
