The role you’ll contribute:
Under general supervision, the Lactation Consultant supports the breastfeeding mother and baby at AdventHealth, its satellite locations, and in the community. The Lactation Consultant teaches breastfeeding classes, makes rounds on the maternity units, provides a telephone helpline, and offers private consultations and breastfeeding products (i.e. pumps, bras) in a retail store. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Rounds on the Maternal/Infant Unit, or other units with lactating mothers, at various AdventHealth as assigned. Visits each breastfeeding mother/baby and evaluates and encourages the nursing dyad. Greets all patients in a friendly, professional manner. Keeps thorough and appropriate notes on each patient.
Works in the various AdventHealth Lactation Centers’ as assigned. Provides private consults for breastfeeding mothers, answers the breastfeeding telephone help line, facilitates the weekly mother/baby luncheon, sells breastfeeding products/collects money, and keeps accurate records.
Plans and presents prenatal breastfeeding classes. Collects evaluations at each class and makes changes to the classes as needed. Arrives early enough to prepare for class and coordinates class so it runs smoothly.
Provides accurate and consistent information to clients and patients regarding breastfeeding as well as AdventHealth policies and procedures. Attends staff meetings and seminars to stay updated. Reviews literature/new research and shares information with colleagues and staff.
Participates in opportunities to educate the community regarding breastfeeding/research projects/speaking opportunities/AdventHealth committees. Interested in the quality of work done in this department and makes suggestions for improvement.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Minimum qualifications:
Graduate from a school of Nursing
Maternity nursing or newborn nursing experience
Florida state or multi state Registered Nurse (RN)
Certified Lactation Consultant
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Preferred qualifications:
International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant
